Austen fan-fiction can also take characters into modern times and setting. These are not typically written in Austen’s flowing prose but in a simpler, blunter style. A good place to find this sort is Fantasia Gallery. Here is an example, “A Pair of Fine Green Eyes” that takes the Bennet sisters into the modern era. This fan-fic is written as breezy chick-lit, a la The Devil Wears Prada.
Another good example of this style is “Cooking with Miss Woodhouse,” a modern spin on Emma. Save for the characters, Austen fan-fics set in modern times have little resemblance to Austen’s works.
