Fanfic First Draft

This is a fanfic combining Austen's Emma and Pride and Prejudice. It is a conversation between Emma Woodhouse and Elizabeth Bennet, all done through Twitter. Prior to each other’s respective marriages, Emma counsels Lizzy on how she must handle the situation with Mr. Darcy. Emma, the consummate match-maker, is full of advice for headstrong Lizzy, who brushes off all of Emma’s directions.

Emma: @lizzyB -- Lizzy, dear, heard ur having troubles of the romantic sort. U know how I do love playing matchmaker… care 2 talk?
Elizabeth: @cupidslilhelper -- No, thanx, don’t think I require ur gift of matching. I'm sure you have ur hands full w/ that poor Harriet Smith.
Emma: @LizzyB -- Harriet is a lovely girl & w/ my help will be married in no time.
Elizabeth: @cupidslilhelper -- Yes, as I said, poor Harriet Smith...
Emma: @LizzyB -- Don’t be silly. U know, not everyone is as hopeless as u on the subject of marriage. Mr. Darcy, 4 example…
Elizabeth: @cupidslilhelper -- Mr. Darcy, an absolutely awful man, is of no concern to u. And I would say it is u, will all this matchmaking business, who's the silly one.
Emma: @LizzyB -- Calm down, dear. It’s just that I know Darcy is quite keen on u. U mustn't be so quick to pass on such an offer.
Elizabeth: @cupidslilhelper -- Emma, u don't know what ur talking about. Darcy is nothing but a snob.
Emma: @LizzyB -- Not a snob at all! Darcy is a man of refined taste & character, the heir to a sizable fortune, AND he wants u! If u ask me you’d be CRAZY not to accept his offer straight away...
Elizabeth: @cupidslilhelper -- Unlike u, dear, there are more important things to me than society and fortune. The man I marry must appreciate that & if no such man presents himself, I will be perfectly content to remain unmarried.

  1. cool, you pulled this off really well. i love the 'net speak' it still has that air of being written by Austen with the language you used but by transferring it into a twitter format its modern as well. i can't wait to read more dude.

  2. Sounding good so far. I like how you have kept the feel of the original and the use language to show older times is clear to see! You have also used a different structure to other people which is good. Are u writing a script?

  3. Nice idea Abbey - an ff crossover/twitter hybrid. It's an idea we should push more in iWrite - the development or exploration of new hybrid genres influenced by social networking platforms, etc. Great stuff and some valuable comments by Conor and Daniel.
